The Heartland Study English Work Program is an excellent opportunity to study English and gain important experience working in Canada. We have a variety of programs to suit each student’s particular needs including general work experience and internships that are relevant to their academic studies or profession.
Our programs include:

Work-Study Program: Heartland's Work-Study Program (Paid) is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your classroom knowledge to a general work environment in a Canadian company. Students gain valuable work experience, get paid as well as have an opportunity to practice English and learn about Canadian culture.

Working Holiday Program: This program is for students from Canada's Working Holiday Visa Partner Countries. Heartland's Working Holiday - Study Program (Paid) is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your classroom knowledge to a general work environment in a Canadian company. Students gain valuable work experience, get paid as well as have an opportunity to practice English and learn about Canadian culture.

Practical Internship Program: Heartland's Internship Program (Unpaid) is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your classroom knowledge to a practical work environment. Students gain valuable work experience in their chosen field as well as an opportunity to practice English and learn about Canadian business culture

Volunteer Program: Heartland's volunteer program gives students a unique opportunity to be involved in community projects, (sports and cultural events, campaigns, environmental groups, local festivals and many more), meet Canadian people, keep speaking English and make international friends.

Requirements

Students must meet specific requirements for the program they wish to register in. Requirements include:

• Canada Visa Requirements
• Entrance Requirements
• Study & Exit Requirement (before starting work portion of program)

Note : Before coming to Canada, students must apply for a study permit in their countries. For the work permit, students can apply in their country or in Canada, if they decide to join the internship program after they are in Canada, but must have a valid study permit.

How to Apply

1. Obtain an Application form from one of our Agent representatives or Download and Print the Application Form directly.
2. Pay the $100 Application Fee (Non-Refundable)
3. If available please submit your English Proficiency results (TOEFL, TOEIC, etc.)
4. Fax or email in the Application Form and we will respond to you with 24-48 hours with any follow up questions or information required.

Terms and Conditions

When Heartland tries to find you a work placement you are agreeing to accept our terms and conditions.

• You will need good English skills to get the most from your experience.
• If your English level is not that strong at the time of your placement, you cannot expect to participate in very challenging or high level work.
• You may be required to enroll in additional academic programs or cancel the placement program if you do not meet the Heartland language requirement level for each program.
• Heartland will try to help you find a placement to match your needs. However, if we are unable to find a placement that matches your requirements, you must accept a placement regardless of the type of business, size, location and wages.
• Heartland will try to secure a minimum of 3 interviews. Your ability to secure a placement will depend largely on your participation in the program, attendance, job readiness, resume, cover letter, and the impression you give the employer in your interview. If, after 3 interviews, you remain unsuccessful in securing a placement, Heartland is willing to refund 20% of your placement fee.
• Failure to attend a face-to- face interview or willingness to contact a host company for an interview may cause Heartland to dismiss the student from the program.

Once you are in a work / internship placement you should accept the following guidelines

• The work experience you are offered will depend largely on your motivation, willingness to learn and participation.
• You must be flexible and be prepared to assist with tasks not mentioned in the Employment Agreement.
• The placement will not offer you management responsibilities.
• During your placement, you are considered an employee of the company and you must act responsibly at all times. You should learn by observing your colleagues in the workplace and ask questions before commencing any task you are unsure of.
• If the employer is professionally negligent in terms of misconduct and improper behavior, we will attempt to place you with another employer.
• Heartland has the right to use your job feedback for promoting the program.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

• Application fees and Homestay placement fees are non-refundable.
• No job placement fee refund will be given at any time after confirmation and acceptance of the placement by the student
• No refund is given after the start of the work placement
• If a student authorization is denied, the school will refund all fees (except for application fees).
• If a student withdraws (or is dismissed) from the Access Program after the start of his or her program, the school will refund 50% of the tuition fees that have been paid, but not used.
• If a student withdraws (or is dismissed) from the Impact or Focus Program after the start of his or her program, the student is not eligible for a refund and cannot transfer the fees to another course.
• Notification of cancellation for a work or internship program must be made 8 weeks prior to the start of the

• Heartland will attempt to secure a minimum of 3 interviews for each student
• If the student secures their own job placement, Heartland will refund 20% of the Placement Fee
• Refusals by the student to attend interviews wil not constitute acceptable grounds for a refund.
• Refunds owing to the students will be paid within 14 days of receiving the written notification of withdrawal.
