Teachers

At Heartland you will learn from professionally trained teachers with university degrees and qualifications in Teaching English as a Second Language. Your teachers have many years teaching English in Canada and other countries. Many of your teachers at Heartland have learned a second language, so they know what it feels like to be a student.


Stuart Schwartz  B.A., M.A. is the Academic Head at Heartland.  He is a graduate of the universities of Manitoba and Toronto and obtained his Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL) from the University of Manitoba. He received his professional certification (Standard 1 [permanent]) from TESL Canada in 2007. He has been teaching at Heartland since 1999.

Carol Hutchinson-Peters B.A., is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg majoring in English Literature. She taught English in Chile for nine years. She received her certificate in TESOL from the University of Winnipeg in 2008.  She has been teaching at Heartland since 2001.

Melanie Hiebert B.A., is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg with a double major in Philosophy and Religious Studies, and obtained her Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL) from the University of Manitoba.  She has taught overseas as well as locally, and has been teaching at Heartland since 2001.

Jeneen Tomko B. A., is a graduate of the University of Manitoba with an advanced major in Linguistics and a major in Spanish.  She also obtained her Certificate in Teaching  English as a Second Language (CTESL) from the University of Manitoba.  She has been teaching at Heartland since April 2008.

Gary Gervais B.A., L.L.B is the President of Heartland. He was born and raised in Winnipeg. He lived in Ehime-ken, Japan for three years teaching English on the JET Programme. gary@heartlandenglish.com

Keira Bulloch is the Director of Heartland. She received her Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Manitoba, majoring in both International Business and Marketing. keira@heartlandenglish.com

Angie Tuesday is the Homestay Co-ordinator at Heartland School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is currently in the process of completing her M.Sc. degree in Family Social Sciences at the University of Manitoba. homestay@heartlandenglish.com

Yoshiko Watanabe is the accounting clerk at Heartland. She moved to Canada from Japan, and graduated from the Tourism Certificate Program and Accounting Certificate Program (honours) at Red River College.
