Melanie Hiebert - Teacher

Teaching Philosophy
Learning a language, particularly English, challenges the best of students! My goal as a teacher is to make you feel comfortable, inspired, and rewarded. Lessons are designed with a balanced approach to learning so that you can not only improve your reading and writing, but also your speaking and listening.
Hobbies and interests
My favorite things are reading novels in the sun, traveling to foreign countries and experiencing new cultures, drinking wine with my friends, dining at local restaurants with my husband, listening to music, painting on canvas, taking photos, watching movies, swimming in Lake Winnipeg, hiking in the forest with my dog, eating my mom’s food, and learning new things. Also, I love my job and I really love meeting people from all over the world.
Teaching Moments
There have been so many great moments at Heartland that have influenced me. I love watching students progress! Through studying and making international friendships, many students’ English skills flourish, and they leave Winnipeg as great communicators! Also, my relationships with my students have been such a meaningful addition to my life. I feel so fortunate to be able to learn about the world through you. As Heartland students know, it is a unique privilege to have friends in so many different countries.
