Homestays at Heartland are more than a homestay. Students are part of a family.

The Homestay Coordinator:

- Arranges for a suitable homestay.
- Meets and greets you upon your arrival and introduces you to your host family.
- Provides you with an information package on Winnipeg.
- Monitors your homestay placement.
The Host Family:
- Helps you become familiar with your new surroundings.
- Helps you to improve your English and adjust to Canadian culture and food.
- Gives you the opportunity to participate in family activities.
- Provides practical advice.
The Student:
- Is courteous, respectful, and friendly.
- Maintains the cleanliness of their room.
- Is responsible for their personal laundry and room linens.
- Abides by the rules of the home and tries to speak English as much as possible.
- Participates in meal preparations and clean-up.
- Pays for all personal toiletries, outings, and special foods (if required).
- Is responsible for acquiring a long distance telephone calling card.
- Is flexible and willing to adjust to a new environment.
