Homestay Fees:

The Homestay Coordinator:

• Personally inspects, approves and arranges for a suitable homestay.
• Meets and greets you upon your arrival at the airport and introduces you to your host family.
• Provides you with an information package on Winnipeg.
• Monitors your homestay placement.
  

The Host Family:

• Helps you become familiar with your new surroundings.
• Helps you to improve your English and adjust to Canadian culture and food.
• Gives you the opportunity to participate in family activities.
• Provides practical advice.

The Student:

• Is courteous, respectful, and friendly.
• Maintains the cleanliness of their room.
• Is responsible for their personal laundry and room linens.
• Abides by the rules of the home and tries to speak English as much as possible.
• Participates in meal preparations and clean-up.
• Pays for all personal toiletries, outings, and special foods (if required).
• Is responsible for acquiring a long distance telephone calling card.
• Is flexible and willing to adjust to a new environment.

Residences

Living in a residence allows you to live with other students and includes renting a room and purchasing a meal plan. Heartland does not have its own residence but has University and College partners that provide space for our students throughout the year. All residences are within a short distance from the school. The residences available include:

University of Winnipeg Residence (McFeetors Hall)

Recently opened in 2009, McFeetors Hall is a brand new, modern residence with single and double dorms available.

Some of the features include:

• Single dorm-style rooms – furnished; single occupancy; private bathroom; limited kitchen/ dining facilities available 
• Double dorm-style pod rooms – furnished; double occupancy; 2 bedrooms; private bathroom; kitchenette 
• Two student lounge areas offer 29 foot high-windows with spectacular urban views and wireless internet 
• Laundry Facilities
• Air-conditioned rooms, 24 hour security 

Prices :

• PLACEMENT FEE : $200
• SECURITY DEPOSIT : $275
• ACCOMODATION : Single or Double Dorm Room—$146.25 per week
• Mandatory VISITING SCHOLARS MEAL PROGRAM : 10 Meals per week—$100 after taxes

William and Catherine Booth College

College residence located in city centre across from the University of Winnipeg, run by the Salvation Army. The residence is directly associated with the William and Catherine Booth College, a Chrisitan College. Non-WCBC students are still required to follow the WCBC resident student guidelines as expressed in their NON-WCBC Residential Student Manual. This manual is available in electronic form.

• Non-smoking facility.
• No Alcohol
• Walking distance to Heartland.
• Single and double rooms on women only and men only floors, shared bath/floor.
• 24-hour residence staff.
• Amenities: common room with TV, gym, kitchen facilities, library, chapel, laundry, rooms are air conditioned, no parking available.

Prices:

RESIDENCE SUITE OPTIONS (4 weeks or Less)

A) Regular Single Suite  - $22.50 per night

B) Guest Suite - $50 per night

• Guest suite is furnished, self contained apartment with bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitche

Conditions
- Room must be held by a Credit Card
- Meal Plans are not required but meals are available for purchase Mon-Fri

RESIDENCE OPTIONS (Staying more than 4 weeks)

If you are staying in Winnipeg longer than 4 weeks there are multiple options for you to choose from including:

PER PERSON - Single Room

1. Room Only - $75 per week
2. Room & Lunch - $117.38 per week
3. Room & Dinner - $130.09 per week
4. Room & Lunch + Dinner - $161.25 per week

OPTION 1 – Only Available from May – August
OPTIONS 2-4 = Only Available from September - April

Note: Meals are ONLY AVAILABLE Monday – Friday. Guests are responsible for finding or making their own meals on the weekends.

25% Damage Deposit Required upon arrival
